What a Lip Flip Cannot Do

A lip flip cannot add actual lip volume, rebuild the lip border, replace lost structure, shorten a long upper lip, or produce the same result as a surgical lip lift. It also cannot guarantee correction of a gummy smile or significant structural asymmetry.

If the desired change requires added structure or substantial enlargement, a lip flip alone is unlikely to provide it.

What to Expect From Treatment

Treatment begins with observation of the lips at rest and during smiling, speaking, pursing, and lip closure. If a lip flip is appropriate, Botox is placed in a conservative, individualized pattern around the upper lip.

The injections are brief, but the effect is not immediate. Some patients begin noticing a change within several days, with the result becoming clearer over approximately one to two weeks. The degree of change and duration vary with anatomy, muscle activity, placement, dose, and individual response.

Lip-flip effects may be shorter-lived than Botox in some upper-face areas because the muscles around the mouth are used constantly. Results may last from several weeks to a few months, but duration cannot be guaranteed.

Risks, Limitations, and Off-Label Use
